Payne of Brasstown. died at the home of his father Wednesday. Funeral was held at Pine Log Methodist church today 'Thursday) at 3 o'clock, with the Rev Blane I^dford officiating. Dies Five Days After His Wife's Death At 74 Mrs. J. F. Arrant of Bellview died at her home Friday. July 30. at the a*e of 74. On Wednesday ef this week her husband died at the age of 76. He was taken ill ?n the day of his wife's death. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Arrant Sunday at 2 p. m. at ftreen Cove Methodist church at ?rasstown. with the pastor. Rev. A J Clemmer. officiating. Burial *as in the church cemetery. Mrs. Arrant was the daughter ?* the late Henry Greene and was a member of one of the oldest families in this section. Before Pearl Harbor they land ed In Iceland and took over out i posts to protect out trade lines to England. For months they battled Arctic weather and helped build bases there. After that they fought on Mid way, Makin and Guadalcanal where the steam of jungle heat and merciless tropic rains have made their task doubly difficult. They adjusted themselves to the radical chance, however, and pave a good account of them selves. You -an't possibly realize what it Is like to get something like that. I've never reecived any gift, more opportunely, nor more welconie." The above is a letter from a prisoner of war. written February 21. It is thanking the Red Cross for the Prisoner of War Pood package which is sent to prison ers. One of the packages of these foods is on display in the window of the Cherokee Scout office, and the public is Invited to Inspect It. The foods were loaned to the Cherokee County chapter of the Red Cross for two weeks.
